Disabled Muslims Australia

A disability is any condition that restricts a person's bodily or mental functions to perform a task the same way as a person without a disability. The disability can be seen as a function of a person's medical condition, but not the condition itself. It does not mean that the person cannot be independent, undertake employment, or have meaningful relationships.

News

This website is being converted to be in line with the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Accessibility Initiative that ensures websites and pages are fully accessible to people with disabilities. Many of these changes will be in relation to the format and layout of text, descriptions of images, and converting the colour scheme to be high contrast. Importantly, this will ensure that the website is fully accessible for those with visual disabilities, software such as screen readers, and dictation software used to navigate the internet. There are two important things to note that will Insha'Allah save any negative judgements. Firstly, brackets, acronyms, and symbols cause problems for users of screen reading software. In order to make all information and services accessible to everyone acronyms such as pbuh, Quran passages written in Arabic, and brackets surrounding references need to be removed. Allah is all aware, and knows the difficulty these things cause for some people. We must also remember that we are rewarded based on our intentions. Secondly, the website may appear plain and lacking in artistic design. This is necessary to provide content that is clear for viewers with visual disabilities. Designs that include fancy fonts, interesting backgrounds, colour schemes, and shading can make a website unable to be read by some people. For these reasons, I ask you to be understanding of the need for these adjustments to ensure that all members of our community are included.
Finally, please get in contact with me if you have any difficulty accessing the site, or require specific adjustments to be made to assist you in accessing any content.

As always, please be patient as these updates are completed. I run Disabled Muslims Australia primarily on my own, and do so voluntarily in my free time. I will endeavour to have the updates completed as soon as possible.
